Footnote Dance to the World!

From the 2010 Made in New Zealand season, Purlieu has been seen by thousands on New Zealand Day at the World Expo in Shanghai on July 9th as part of a production incorporating leading New Zealand artists including the NZTrio, Aivale Cole and Moana & the Tribe.

 

Choreographed by Malia Johnston and composed to music by Eden Mulholland,  Purlieu explores the preciousness and precariousness of small spaces - a theme very relevant to the Expo’s theme of “Better Cities - Better Life.”

It is great to be such a strong part of the today identity of our own country and a special honour to be invited to travel to perform at the Shanghai Expo.

 

Footnote is now straight into rehearsals for the Footnote Forte Series to be performed in Auckland, Nelson and Wellington in October. Featuring new dance works in different venues on the same night, the Series includes choreographies by Malia Johnston, Maria Dabrowska, Sarah Foster, Kristian Larsen, Sarah Knox and Lyne Pringle who are responding to the environment in which we find ourselves, be it social, natural, political or the wonder of people and their relationships. Keep an eye on our website for dates!

 

The Company will also be travelling into schools around the country - to the Wairarapa, Samuel Marsden Collegiate School, Matamata Intermediate, Warkworth Primary School and Te Mata Primary School. We have a few places left for workshops in the Wellington region, so if you are interested, please contact us.

From the close association between Footnote Dance, Choreographer Malia Johnston and Composer Eden Mulholland, we are promoting Eden’s recently released and critically acclaimed new album - Music For Dance. With beautiful tunes from pieces including Miniatures, False Waltz, Broken By Design and Crash Test Dummies, all seen in Footnote Dance performance seasons.
